The trend towards organics now includes gardening, and extends to professionals and hobby gardeners. At the first German organic gardening fair, the Biogartenmesse, which takes place 8–9 June in the castle grounds of Schloss Freudenberg in Wiesbaden, 50 exhibition stands will provide information on seeds, ecological horticulture and organic gardening. They will not only be presenting their products, but are inviting visitors to take part in a horticultural exchange.
As part of the Biogartenmesse programme, Dieter Gaissmayer from the Gaissmayer Bioland Shrub Nursery in Illertissen will talk about the magic and value of historical shrubs. Another guest speaker is Dr Annette Herz of the Julius Kühn Institute for Biological Plant Protection, Darmstadt. She will talk about beneficial garden organisms and their use in biological plant protection. Schloss Freudenberg’s Bernhard Stichlmair will talk about gardening with children and about the garden as a socio-ecological sculpture, and will guide visitors through the “Experience Field for the Development of Senses and Thinking” in the castle grounds.
