Environmental Statement

Key environmental indices

In order to be able to assess the environmental development of a company over the years, a figure is required that takes into consideration the use of water and energy, the production volume and the building area. This type of figure is called an index; the smaller the index, the better the performance in environmental protection.

*Waste per goods sold

The environmental indices for electricity and gas clearly show an overall improvement in the environmental balance, despite the fact that legal requirements for ventilation and air conditioning are constantly increasing.

The environmental index for water increased significantly with the operational start-up of the expansion building at Dorfstrasse 1, despite plans to conserve water. This increase in water consumption was caused by increasingly stringent requirements for the cleaning of our containers as specified by law (GMP = Good Manufacturing Practice). Over the course of 2004, we succeeded in decreasing our water consumption by reviewing and adapting our cleaning programmes. An improvement can once again be observed in the index for waste relative to the previous year.

Ohter environmental aspects

No contamination whatsoever has been discovered during the environmental audits that have been conducted since 1998.

Special noise restrictions must be applied at Dorfstrasse 1 and 3 due to the proximity of the nearby spa tourism. The noise level may not exceed 45 dB(A) during the day, while the limit at night is 35 dB(A). The buildings at Bosslerweg, Rossauchtert and Badstrasse are located in residential areas. Outside noise levels of 55/35 dB(A) (day/night) may not be exceeded here. WALA is unaware of any complaints in this respect.
