What changed in 2008?

In September 2008, we were pleased to open a new building at Dorfstrasse 1 with an area of 4,300 square metres for manufacturing, laboratories and office space. This represents a 25% increase in manufacturing space at the Dorfstrasse location. As a result of this expansion and the demanding legal requirements for ventilation and air conditioning, our energy consumption rose considerably in 2008. The cold winter of 2008/2009 also led to increased heating requirements.

In addition to electricity and gas, our environmental indices have generally increased, due to increased consumption of water and the volume of waste resulting from our production activities. The latter is the result of experiments with a new cleaning system, which we operate in parallel with the regular cleaning equipment. In order to decrease the environmental index for waste in the future, in 2008 we re-organised departmental responsibilities in order to better prevent and reduce waste.

Overall we produced smaller amounts of medicines and cosmetics in 2008, which can be seen in the input volumes of raw materials and packaging materials.
